liner has a larger feature set, but is quirky sometimes; also, while x/crypt/ssh/terminal must be installed separately, too, it is not an external dependency like liner is.

And, switching raw mode on/off directly before reading a line should also revolce the lic issue #1.

Anyway, to change horses mid-stream, I decided not to switch to x/crypt/ssh/terminal (which was just too frugal), but rather attempt it with github.com/chyzer/readline, which has at least a history. Or so it claims; let's see how I can get that one going. Apparently saving the history to a file doesn't happen on its own, as I thought was implied by the documentation.

The above comment turned out to be too optimistic, as that didn't help either. Also, raw mode wasn't switched on (explicitly) at all, so switching to cooked mode wasn't what was needed anyway. The bug seems to be in liner itself.
